Books may be kept for one month or, by prior arrangement with the Librarian, for a longer period if the item is not required by another member. The Society makes no charge for borrowing but the member is responsible for paying postage both ways.
On receiving a loan request, the Librarian despatches the book(s), if available, together with an ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RECEIPT form. The member completes this form and returns the form immediately together with the outwards postage (noted from the postage stamps on the parcel). Cheques should be made payable to the Librarian. When returning book(s) to the Library members should obtain a CERTIFICATE OF POSTING, hand-stamped by the Post Office and retain it. This PO service is free.
Books are loaned out on the strict understanding that the member borrowing from the Library is responsible for the safe return of the book(s) in good order. All losses and damages have to be made good at the expense of the borrower. Some of the books are valued in excess of 100 and many are well over 50. Photocopying from the books should only be carried out on suitable machines which will not damage the spine of the book.
The book title is in BOLD CAPITAL type, followed by the author's/editor's name. Also included, in brackets and where known, are: Publisher; edition/date of publication; whether HB (hard back), PB (paper back), SC (soft cover) or LL (loose leaf); approximate page size; number of pages; and unpacked weight.
